Halogen Derivatives of Silicobutane, Si4X10

The chlorine and bromine derivatives are known.

Decachlorosilicobutane, Si4Cl10

Decachlorosilicobutane, Si4Cl10, is among the products of the action of the electric discharge on a mixture of hydrogen and silicon tetrachloride. It is a liquid boiling at 149°-151° C. under 15 mm. pressure.

Decabromosilicobutane, Si4Br10

Decabromosilicobutane, Si4Br10, is formed, together with its homologues, when the silent electric discharge acts on silicobromoform, It is a crystalline solid, melting with decomposition at 185° C.
